RSS operates a K - 12 Design/Build program. The intent is that every student have a chance to explore and experience building 'stuff' that is both useful and interesting. The goal is that every student graduates RSS with a career plan. One third of graduates attend trade school.
Shop classes include old school activities such as wood (i.e. yes we still build boxes and birdhouses) and metal works. Shop also includes other technologies such as FM radio, sound recording, 3D printing, venial cutting, ukulele building and a host of other projects. In 2023, we piloted an Indigenous Technology Course.
The program is supported by Education Yukon, the Industrial Arts and Technology Society of the Yukon, THFN, Yukon University, Klondike Placer Mining Association and Skills Canada Yukon. The slide show below was presented in January, 2023 at a trades education meeting sponsored by the Yukon First Nations Education Directorate.
