About This Course
The 2022-23 Indigenous Technology course is a pilot project. The big idea is to explore how best to work with traditional knowledge and natural materials in the wood and metal shops. The goal is to determine what is feasible and desirable so that it can be integrated into the general shop program which spans grades K - 12. Drums are made on a regular basis and we want to expand the number of projects. As of April, 2023, we've worked at carving, atlatl, bows, digital video, hide tanning, martin stretches/boxes and canoes. Some of the work is helping develop projects for the 2023-24 Outdoor Education classes.
The course is developed with the help of the THFN Education team, elders and RSS staff.
